Robert J. Axelrod is a partner at Pomerantz and a member of the Firm's Insurance Practice Group. He was on the successful trial team in Addison v. American Medical Security (Fla. Cir. Ct., Palm Beach Co.), and the settled actions American Medical Ass'n v. United Healthcare Corp. ($350 million), American Dental Ass'n v. Aetna, Inc. (S.D. Fla.), Steinberg v. Nationwide Mut. Ins. Co. (E.D.N.Y.), and Wachtel v. Health Net, Inc. ($215 million) Mr. Axelrod is also lead counsel in Raffone v. First American Title Ins. Co. (Fla. Cir. Ct., Nassau Co. Fl.), and Higgins v. Commonwealth Land Title Ins. Co. (Fla. Cir. Ct., Nassau Co. Fl.) (class certifications upheld on appeal), as well as Chereskin v. Fidelity Title Ins. Co. (Fla. Cir. Ct. Broward Co. Fl.). He is prosecuting cases against CIGNA, Aetna, Allstate Insurance Company, American Home Mortgage, Nationwide Insurance Company, Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island, and a number of other Blue Cross Blue Shield entities, and Trilegiant/Affinion. With Mr. Hufford, he is currently litigating Pennsylvania Chiropractic Ass’n v. BCBSA (N.D. Ill.), Association of N.J. Chiropractors v. Aetna, Inc. (D. N.J.), Premier Health Center P.C. v. United Health Group (D. N.J.), Lipstein v. United Healthcare Insurance Co. (D.N.J.), BCBSRI v. Korsen (D.R.I.), and In re Wellpoint, Inc. Out-of-Network “UCR” Rates Litigation, MDL 2074 (C.D. Ca.).

Among the securities and antitrust actions he has worked on are Cross v. Dickstein Partners, Inc., In re Schick Technologies, Inc. Securities Litigation, In re Nasdaq Market Makers Antitrust Litigation, and In re Flat Glass Antitrust Litigation.

Mr. Axelrod's presentations to institutional investors include speeches before public and union pension fund trustees on the topics "Louisiana Public Pension Funds and Shareholder Litigation: A Success Story, "Will Your Benefits Be There When Your Beneficiaries Retire," "Protecting Yourself and Your Pension Board from Financial and Non-Financial Risks, "Corporate Governance: Ensuring Investor Confidence," "Improving Board Governance: Policies and Procedures," "Surviving the Scandals: Implications of Late Trading, Market Timing, and the New Mutual Fund Regulatory Regime," and "Louisiana Public Pension Funds and Shareholder Litigation: A Continuing Success Story." Most recently, he gave a presentation on this year's Supreme Court class action and securities litigation jurisprudence to the New Orleans Firefighters Pension & Relief Fund 2011 Education Conference in New Orleans, and a presentation entitled “Analyzing the Improper Conduct of Health Insurers and the Managed Care Industry: UCR and Recoupment” at the Insurance, Settlement and Mediation Summit in Las Vegas.

Mr. Axelrod is also a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association, and serves as a member of the Class Action Subcommittee of the New York State Bar Association.
